Arthur "Dutch" Schultz

Dutch Schultz, 1942                                Dutch & Carol Schultz, 1950

My father, Arthur “Dutch” Schultz was born in Phoenix, Arizona in 1923 and grew up in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from high school in 1941 and wanted to enlist in the Marines but his mother wouldn’t sign for him. He then enlisted in the Army and was assigned to anti-aircraft training, but within a matter of months he volunteered for the paratroopers and was accepted by the 82 nd Airborne Division. His first combat duty was on D-Day, June 6, 1944 when he jumped into Normandy from a plane damaged by enemy fire. He fought with the 505th Regiment of the 82 nd in the Allied invasion of Holland, the Battle of the Bulge and into Germany.
